Uitbreiding Continium Kerkrade van start

Deze week ontvingen wij het heuglijke bericht van Shift Architecture dat de bouw rondom C-city van start is gegaan. Aan het huidige Discovery Centrum Continium worden 2 publieke faciliteiten toegevoegd, genaamd Cube en Colombus. Met deze toevoegingen wordt het op de grens van Nederland – Duitsland liggende dorp Kerkrade een stad met een designmuseum en het eerste Europese planetarium (een schaalmodel van de wereld). C-city markeert de entree naar Kerkrade voor zowel treinpassagiers als bezoekers die met de auto vanuit de eromheen gelegen hoofdwegen komen. Het totale budget lag op 20,5 miljoen en het museum zal eind volgend jaar (2015) geopend worden.

Als brandveiligheidexperts mochten wij dit gehele project van Fire Safety Advies voorzien. Shift Architecture schrijft hierover: “C-City is an initiative of Hans Gubbels, director of the Discovery Center Continium. Shift Architecture Urbanism designed the project together with ABT (engineering), Bureau Bouwkunde (fire safety and building code advice) and Bremen Advisors (MEP). The construction is made possible with support by the province of Limburg and the municipality of Kerkrade, both in the Netherlands. Construction will be by Mertens contractors who won a European engineering and construction tender for the project. C-City is an abbreviation of Creative City and the C symbolizes the first letter of all three museums and the essential concepts of the museum district: culture, creativity, collective, coal, connectivity and co-creation.”
